Create your own online content library in 3 easy steps
Create your own Online Content Libray.
Fill it with your own online content that resonates with your audience. You can then repurpose that content from your very own library at any time.
Remember as a kid when you used to go to the library?
You may have been looking for a special book or a DVD ( showing my age here ) or even a CD to listen to ( really showing my age now) Maybe you still go to the library or maybe you go online and use the Libby app.
Netflix and Spotify are also types of libraries, being online spaces to hold their wares
Back to my library analogy.
Yes, you remember searching for them? How did you find the things you were looking for?
You may have searched the shelves and been lucky to find exactly what you wanted, but more likely you used the system that all libraries have in place to locate the exact piece of information you wanted.
An online content library is just like Libby or Netflix.
Instead of holding someone elses creations your online content library
is your own place to hold your own online content to use time and time again.
Where to start?
I must admit I wasn’t sure whether to start with the library set-up or the review process to choose what to put in your library
But I realised we need a place to put things in first before we start to choose what to include.
Even if you haven’t created much or any content this can be super helpful to have this setup, to begin with
Once you have your library set up then you can add your best-performing pieces as you move forward in your content creation journey.
So first, we will start with the setup
Then we will move on to the review process of how to choose what goes in your library.
Getting Set up
1/ Setting up your online library
First, you need to create your library. If there’s no building (or online platform think Netflix ) You need to build one to house all those wonderful pieces of content you have already or will create. And this will need to be an online platform.
Trello is a great place to start and it’s free.
There are lots of great tutorials to help you find your way around.
The boards are easy to see and act like lists good for visual list-type people and for people who like to tick things off.
You can easily move things around as well making your library very dynamic.
You could also use many other systems like Google Drive, Dropbox, and Evernote. Any online tool that works for you.
This is important because if you set up something that doesn’t work for you then you won’t use it and that defeats the purpose of having an online content library in the first place.
Trello does have a paid option though you can easily start with the free version
Make it your own
2/ Choose your layout
You can choose to set up your Trello board any way you like.
This is where you can really make it your own. You can even choose your own background to reflect your unique personality.
As you can see in the image below, I have set up my Online Content Library with the following:
First up on my list is my Audience. This reminds me of WHO I am creating content for.
Next on that same list is my Cornerstone Content. Where all the content begins.
Followed by the WHERE and WHEN.
The rest of the lists are the Topics and Themes for each month.
If you are not sure of your own topics and themes, you can
Download my Get Online Confident in 7 Steps Email series
to help you work them out.
The series will also take you step-by-step to create a simple online content strategy that you can use as the basis for your online content library and help you feel very confident getting online!
Has something you’ve done really resonated with your audience?
If so it makes sense doesn’t it to share this again.
3/ The Review process
To build your library step by step, you need to add your content to it.
I recommend you set aside some time each month or quarter to review your online content.
Take a look at your insights from each of your online platforms every month. See what has worked best for you and your audience.
However you set up your library make sure it makes sense to you. No point copy and pasting the best-performing content into your library where you can’t locate it.
If you set up your online content library in Topics and Themes for each month you can easily add the URL from your best posts to the library making them easily accessible to be reused and even recycled into new formats.
A quick recap
1/ Choose the best online place for your library. I recommend Trello, but Google Drive, Dropbox or Evernote can work jsut as well
2/ Build the library in a way that works best for you. Lists. files folders. your library your choice!
3/ Review your own online content and add it to your library so you can use it over and over.
Since setting up and using my own online content library the time I can choose to spend as much or as little time on my content as I want.
It’s easy to find the best performing content under each topic, and that makes it easy to reduce the amount of content I have to create, easy to reuse it and easy to recycle it in different ways.
An online content library is your best way to easily repurpose your online content.
I do understand it can feel a little daunting when first starting out.
